2022 The 15th 'Chinese Bridge' Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students in the Netherlands

In order to provide an opportunity to Dutch secondary school students who are learning Chinese to show their proficiency of Chinese language and to create a platform for mutual communication among students, the Education Section of Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands and the Groningen Confucius Institute will jointly organize the 2022 Chinese Proficiency Competition for Dutch Secondary School Students (the Preliminary of the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students in the Netherlands).

13:30-17:00

(Registration deadline: 6 May 2022)

III. Location

The competition will be held online via Zoom.

IV. Application requirements

1. Aged between 15 and 20 years old.

2. Dutch secondary school students. Non-Chinese nationality, born and raised outside China, native language is non-Chinese.

3. First-prize winner in the 13th Chinese Bridge competition is not eligible.

V. Content of the competition

The contents of the competition consists of three parts: knowledge quiz, speech and talent show.  The total mark is 100 points. The contestants order will be decided by drawing lots. Please click here to download the scoring criteria.

The 2022 competition consists of two parts: online live competition and video recording. The part on 28 May includes:

PART 1: Knowledge quiz

Knowledge quiz will be presented with Kahoot, covering Chinese culture, national conditions, Chinese language knowledge, etc. The contestants need to complete 20 multiple-choice questions, and 30 seconds for each question. Each question counts for 1.5 points and the total mark is 30 points. Please click here to download the quiz questions for preparation.

NOTE: The questions are for reference only. Actual questions are not completely from this question bank.

PART 2: Impromptu Speech

This part includes playing the pre-recorded videos of contestants and a one-minute impromptu speech. The total mark of the impromptu speech is 20 points. Contestants will draw lots to get their topic for the impromptu speech and will be given 6 minutes to prepare for it.

The topics of the impromptu speech cover Chinese culture, national conditions, Chinese language knowledge, etc. Please click here to download the example topics.

The other part of the competition is to record the followings, and contestants need to send their recordings to the committee before 21 May 2022:

PART 1: Speech

This speech includes self-introduction and a prepared speech, maximum 3 minutes, and the total mark is 25 points. Contestants are free to choose the topic.

PART 2: Talent show

Each contestant has a maximum of 3 minutes to show one Chinese talent that they have prepared based on their individual skills and interests. The total mark is 25 points for this part.

VI. Prizes

1. The competition awards 1 first-prize, 2 second-prize, 3 third-prize, and several honorable mentions.

2. There are two single prizes: Best Elegance Award, for the highest scoring individual in the part of speech; Best Talent Award, for the highest scoring individual in the part of talent show.

3. The first-prize winner is likely to be recommended to participate in the semi-final of the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students on behalf of the Netherlands, and this competition will be online.

The Preliminary of the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students in the Netherlands will be held by the Education Section of Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands and will be organized by the Groningen Confucius Institute.
